{"id":30,"date":"2014-02-04T16:20:14","date_gmt":"2014-02-04T16:20:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcmoa.org\/?page_id=30"},"modified":"2023-03-30T08:33:12","modified_gmt":"2023-03-30T12:33:12","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wcmoa.org\/staging\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"m_-2930491654613712594ox-b0adb6eb58-ydpc5dc6daayahoo-style-wrap\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Black;\">Post 16 was formed by WW I Veterans in 1919. \u00a0It was there in the early days of the American Legion and is one of the original Legion Posts in Connecticut.\u00a0 Since that time, Post 16 has grown and supported many of the Legion\u2019s Programs as well as local Americanism and Veteran Assistance initiatives.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Black;\">Presently Sutter-Terlizzi Post 16 has approximately <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">430<\/span> Legion Members, <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">60<\/span> Ladies Auxiliary members and <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">120<\/span> Sons of the American Legion.\u00a0 Post 16 is active in many local and statewide programs for Americanism.\u00a0 Below are just a few of these programs.<\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Black;\">Annual City-wide Blue Star Banner Ceremony on Armed Forces Day to recognize Shelton families that have loved ones currently serving in the armed forces.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Black;\">High School Oratorical Competition where, Shelton High School students vie for college scholarships awarded by The American Legion by demonstrating their knowledge of the United States Constitution in public speaking contents on local, regional and national levels.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Black;\">Each year, local boys experience the benefits of good sportsmanship and team play through American Legion Baseball.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Black;\">Every summer, Post 16 selects, outstanding Shelton High School students to attend Boys State.
